Meet Paul - Founder of Minds in the Mountains

I’m Paul Taylor, a registered mental health practitioner with a BSc (Hons) and over 15 years of experience, including 6 years in crisis care. Minds in the Mountains offers guided fell walks in the Lake District, combining the benefits of nature with therapeutic conversation, mindfulness, and mental clarity. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply in need of space to think, these walks are designed to help you reconnect, reflect, and rebalance in the heart of the fells.

Attention

restoration

theory

At Minds in the Mountains, we incorporate the principles of Attention Restoration Theory (ART) to support your mental wellbeing through guided fell walks. ART suggests that time spent in natural environments helps restore our capacity for focus and reduces the mental fatigue caused by modern life.

Natural settings gently hold our attention in a way known as “soft fascination” — watching trees sway, hearing streams flow, or walking through open landscapes — giving the brain space to rest and reset. This process can improve clarity of thought, mood, and overall emotional regulation.

(Kaplan, R. & Kaplan, S. (1989). The Experience of Nature: A Psychological Perspective. Cambridge University Press.)

Our walks are intentionally designed to create this restorative experience, combining mindful movement, professional support, and the calming influence of the Lake District landscape.

Walk & Talk

Walk and Talk sessions combine therapeutic conversation with the proven benefits of being outdoors. These one-to-one guided walks take place in the Lake District and are led by Paul Taylor, a registered mental health practitioner with over 15 years’ experience.

Whether you’re facing stress, low mood, anxiety, or just need time to reflect with professional support, Walk and Talk offers a relaxed, person-centred approach. Walking side by side in nature can ease conversation, reduce pressure, and promote clarity and calm.

Each session lasts one hour and is tailored to your pace, needs, and comfort.

Price: £60 per hour

Summit walk

The Summit Walk is a three-hour guided experience with Paul, designed to help you reconnect with yourself in the heart of the Lake District fells. This walk blends therapeutic conversation with the physical and emotional reward of reaching a summit.

Climbing a fell together creates time and space for reflection, clarity, and perspective — both literally and mentally. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or in need of direction, this session offers a powerful setting for personal insight and emotional reset.

Each walk is tailored to your ability and preferences, with a steady pace, supportive conversation, and time to pause, breathe, and take in the views.

Duration: 3 hours

Price: £150

Includes: 1:1 support, tailored route, optional mindfulness exercises, and a warm drink at the top

adventure reset

Adventure Reset is a full-day guided fell walk with Paul. It is designed to help you disconnect from stress and reconnect with yourself in the breath-taking wilds of the Lake District.

We begin the day with a private motor boat ride across a quiet lake, taking you to a peaceful island to ground yourself before the journey begins. From there, we step in amongst the fells for a full-day experience combining movement, stillness, therapeutic conversation, and the natural clarity that only time in nature can bring.

This experience offers space to reflect, talk openly, or simply walk in companionable silence. It’s a chance to reset mentally and emotionally—held safely in the rhythms of the natural world.
